Follow the history of Scottish whiskey during a visit to the old city, all while tasting the best scotch whiskeys!

At the beginning of the 16th century, Scotland’s “eau de vie” could only be sold legally to barbers and surgeons, who believed in its medicinal properties. Since then, its uses have evolved and Scotland now has the most distilleries in the world.

The tour will begin at Mercat Cross, at the core of the city. The guide will explain Edinburgh’s role in fabricating whiskey in relation to the rest of the world. Learn about Andrew Usher, George Ballantine, and Nicolson Street, all pioneers in creating and exporting whiskey around the world.

Head into the Meggets cellars, which are lit only by candlelight. Taste 4 different types of whiskey with the help of a whiskey specialist, clad in a kilt.

Learn everything about whiskey, from how it is made to the effect of each ingredient, such as water, wheat, or even peat. As the guide explains these nuances, visitors will smell and test whiskey from different regions in Scotland such as Speysisde, Highland, and Islay.

After taking this tour, you’ll know all about Scottish whiskey!
