Description

Explore Tokyo's Ningyocho and Nihonbashi districts and sample some local produce!

You'll start your tour in the Ningyocho district, known for its ancient traditions and numerous shops. You'll visit several shops in the district, some of which have been around for over 100 years and run by the same families for generations. You'll then enjoy a ningyoyaki, a small sponge cake filled with red bean paste, and a senbei (rice cake). You'll then head along a small street lined with izakaya (Japanese bistro/bars) and a ryokan(traditional Japanese inn), and visit a local shrine.

This is followed by a visit to the Nihonbashi district, which was one of the city's main merchant areas during the Edo period. Today, it's a financial hub, but still home to numerous traditional Japanese shops that line its narrow streets.

You'll visit a shop that sells traditional Japanese washi paper, founded in 1653 (Edo period). You can visit the shop's museum and look at documents that trace 360 years of Japanese paper history. You'll then pass in front of the Avatar Robot Café, an "experimental" café with rather unusual waiters - remote-controlled robots!

The tour continues with a visit to a traditional toothpick shop that's been around since 1704. Admire the incredible handmade toothpicks and other handicrafts carved from kuromoji wood. You can also visit knife, brush, gold leaf and dashi (soup broth) workshops. The tour ends at Mitsukoshimae metro station.
